SYLLABUS FOR COURSE<\/strong> :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OBJECTIVES:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legal education is a multi- disciplined, multi-purpose education which can develop the human<\/p>\n\n\n\n

resources need to strengthen legal system. The goal of the course is to make the students understand the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

legal language helpful for effective writing and communication, which is a key for lawyer\u2019s success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNIT-I : Introduction to Legal language, Importance of English in Legal Education and Legal Profession, Meaning<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and use of basic Legal terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNITII : Legal maxims and their importance, Important Legal maxims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNIT-III : Reading and Comprehension: Bare Acts, Legal Texts and Case laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNIT-IV : Legal Writing: Fundamental principles of Legal Writing, Precise Writing, Translation, Drafting<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plaintiff, Written statements, Applications and Deeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNIT-V : Communication skills: its importance in Legal Profession, Skills for good communication along with<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soft skills, Presentation techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. WOMEN AND LAW<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

OBJECTIVES<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Course intends to address the need for women rights, analysing certain laws from feminist perspective <\/p>\n\n\n\n

and get acquainted with the laws enacted to protect women from various forms of exploitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SYLLABUS FOR THE COURSE<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNIT-I : Origin and development of Women Studies, Fundamental<\/p>\n\n\n\n

concepts: Sex, Gender, Socialization, Gender roles and Stereotypes. Women\u2019s Human Rights: UDHRS and CEDAW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNIT-II: Constitutional provisions relating to women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Women Rights under Personal laws: Marriage, Maintenance, Divorce, Custody of children, Adoption and Property rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNIT-III: Women and employment: Special provisions under Factories Act, Maternity Benefit Act, Equal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remuneration Act and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal), Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNIT-IV: Glimpses of laws for the protection of Women: the Devadasi Act, 1982, Dowry Prohibition Act,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1961, Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006, Prevention of Sati Act, 1987, Prevention of Immoral Traffic<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Prevention) Act, 1956, PCPNDT,ACT, 1994 and Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act,2005.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNIT-V: Offences against Women:Rape, Dowry death, Cruelty by Husband and husband’s relatives. Special<\/p>\n\n\n\n

provisions for women under CrPC and Evidence Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
