About National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India,

Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th &

12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate

& Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government

led community service activities & programmes. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands

on experience to young students in delivering community service. Various universities,

colleges and Institutions of higher learning have volunteered to take part in various

community service programmes.

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:

i.Understand the community in which they work

ii.Understand themselves in relation to their community

iii.Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving

iv.Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.

v.Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems

vi.Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities

vii.Gain skills in mobilising community participation

viii.Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes

ix.Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and

x.Practise national integration and social harmony

Motto:

The Motto of NSS “Not Me But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and

upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps students development & appreciation to

other person’s point of view and also show consideration towards other living beings. The

philosophy of the NSS is a good doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the

welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and

therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

NSS Logo:

The logo for the NSS has been based on the gian Rath Wheel of the world famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Orissa, India. The Red & Blue colors contained in the logo motivate the NSS Volunteers to be active & energetic for the nation-building social activities. The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space, The wheel thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social change.

NSS Cell was establish in our college in the year 2009-10 with one unit of 60 volunteers. Our college NSS unit organizes the NSS activities regularly. We are conducting seven days special camp and one day regular camp yearly. Apart from camps we organize special lectures on health, education, morality etc. Out NSS Unit has conducted special programmes regarding to Blood Donation Camp and Eye Screening Camp for the benefit of the students and teachers of our college as well as other colleges. We also conduct campus cleaning and plantation programmes.

We have conducted special camp at Mugalkhod Math at outskirt at Vijayapura, from 08-04- 2019 to 14-04-2019. We have done shramadana and legal awareness activities. Apart from that we conducted three regular camps at Mallikarjun Ashram, Vijayapur, Manguli village and Toravi village where we have done cleaning and shramadana. Previous to this, our NSS Unit has done same kind of activities which were beneficial to the society as well as students.
