A mentor-mentee programme was organized in the college so as to achieve the high level of mentoring and coaching. Mentoring facilitates the exchange of ideas, questions, and facilitates concerns between a mentor and mentee. It is a two-way discussion. The full time teaching staff shall be appointed as mentors. Every academic year the college has compiled a list of mentees who have been allocated to mentors. Mentors are expected to provide support to the mentees, they are allocated during the year.
The aim and objectives of mentoring:
- To build a trusting and confidential relationship between the mentor and mentee
- To help the student to improve their abilities and to build a confidence.
- To help the student to take charge of their own lives
- To advice, encourage and guide the students for higher studies and competitive examinations.
- To help the students in addressing the stress related issue and provide remedy in time.
- To develop the students skills, knowledge and experience to new situations and processes.
Guidelines to be followed by mentor:
- A mentor shall be allocated 30 or more mentees, as the case may be( Full time Teaching faculty)
- Mentors should conduct at least one meeting per semester with the mentees.
- Mentors should maintain records of all the mentees.
- Each mentor keeps a mentor diary in which mentees’ challenges and solutions are documented.
- Mentors should take care of mentee’s batch for academic interests and support them for improvement.
- Mentors should encourage the students for extracurricular activities.
- Mentors should in case of extreme situations interact with parents of the mentee.
- Mentors should update regularly the record in the formats supplied.
- Where the mentors are changed the record must be handed to the new mentor.
Responsibilities of Mentor
- Introduce: To introduce and discuss the concept to the mentor and mentee programme with the assigned mentee.
- The mentor should identify the talents of the mentees in sports, cultural, mooting, innovation etc.,and encourage them to participate.
- Mentor should track the mentees attendance, academic performance and career development and maintain the data accordingly.
- Mentor should find out the problem in case the mentee is not regular to the college and intimate the same to their parents.
- Mentor should identify the strength and the weakness of the mentees.
- Mentor should support mentees academically and emotionally.
- Mentor should motivate the mentee to meet the challenges related to professional and personal goals.
- Mentor should ensure that their mentees are following instructions given by college.
- Mentor should help the mentee with challenging situations. The mentor will need to offer a safe environment for the mentee to raise those concerns.
- A mentor has to be patient and open to the listening and understanding the questions and challenges the mentee is facing.
Responsibilities of mentees
- Mentee must commit to the meeting with mentor on a regular basis.
- The mentee must be honest and open and must have willingness to express the situations.
- The mentee has to listen actively to the suggestion and guidance of the mentor.
- The mentee has to speak and discuss the issue or situation to the mentor without confusion and mentee must have clear objectives before meeting the mentor.
- Mentee could be respectful and able to take feedback positively.
- Mentee has to maintain the confidentiality of the relationship.
- Mentee should be Patient, responsive and respectful to the mentor’s role and time
- Mentee must be receive the objective feedback from the mentor comfortably.
